If Looks Could Kill

Posted by on Feb 5, 2014 in Life & Adventures | 2 comments

My sister Tara is keeping busy around the clock. She and my brother-in-law are raising a 16 month old little boy. She called me on the phone the other day and said, “The terrible twos have already begun!”, I replied,”But Tara, he is only a year old.” She told me, many little ones start the “terrible twos” before the age of two.

Then last night I get a video text message from Tara. I captured some of the moments in pictures, and wanted to share with you, what I thought was going on in my little nephew’s mind…

“This looks very neat.” in the background my sis, says “Bentley please don’t touch.”

“Bentley.” my sister says. “Oh, but just one little touch won’t hurt.”

“Maybe mom won’t notice if I cover it with my hands.”

“Hmm, this is pretty cool.”

“Wait a minuet! I think this does something, and mom seems to have forgotten I’m not supposed to touch it.” Then all of this sudden out of nowhere, well “all of this sudden, out of nowhere” from Bentley’s perspective. My sister takes away the mystical remote. And this is the look she gets…

“Um, excuse me I was using that.” Man if looks could kill!

As an Auntie, I saw these pictures and started laughing so hard, I about fell off my chair! Tara on the other hand has to keep it together in front of Bentley, but often times has to walk in the other room, before she has a laughing attack right in front of him. Are you raising little ones? Have you had little moments like these? Maybe you’re an Auntie or Uncle and get the luxury of sitting back and laughing?

Cheap And Sweet

In this early post, I asked if anyone had any questions for me personally? One question I received was…

What do you and Chris do for an inexpensive date? As I read this question I had a little laugh and thought to myself  “At this point in our lives, all Chris and I know is cheap dates!” So here goes…

Light candles at home, turn on my J’ai Dex Amours Pandora radio station and play the card game UNO. For years, Chris has beat me over and over. I told him 2014 was my year, and wouldn’t ya know, I started winning, and after years of loosing I admit I’m not the most graceful winner.

We also like to have movie date nights. We rent movies from Redbox and cuddle on the couch. Here in TX Redbox movies only cost a $1.30 if you don’t get  Blue-ray.

When the weather is nicer we like to go up the street, to our local Starbucks and sit outside and enjoy a cup of coffee out by their waterfall. I would say this is one of mine and Chris’s most cherished things to do.

Chris and I also enjoy finding new vegan recipes online, and cooking together.

We love taking walks, ridding our tandem bike, and swimming at the pool (weather permitting).

We’ve also been known to listen to books on tape together.

There is a vegan restaurant not to far from us, the food is great, but the dessert is AMAZING, so we will eat dinner before hand, and share a dessert like red velvet cake or a piece of apple pie. FYI this vegan restaurant has huge single servings for dessert, so that makes us happy!

Yep, that’s what we do, not the most exciting dates in the world, but I’d have to say some of the sweetest and most special.

My One Word

Helena Rubinstein 1870-1965 – Helena Rubinstein formed one of the world’s first cosmetic companies. Her business enterprise proved immensely successful and later in life she used her enormous wealth to support charitable enterprises in the field of education, art and health. (

I was recently asked to choose one word which I wanted to live by, for the 2014. Many words crossed my mind but, the most significant word, the word that pulled at my heart strings was encourage. I want to encourage others around me; but this is the easy part of the task because, I see greatness and potential in the ones I love, heck I see greatness in the students I go to school with and I hardly know them.  The hard part is having self-encouragement. I tend to ride the doubting roller-coaster, with thoughts like ” what if I can’t do this or that?  Webster’s defines encouragement as this…

: to make (someone) more determined, hopeful, or confident

: to make (something) more appealing or more likely to happen

: to make (someone) more likely to do something : to tell or advise (someone) to do something

“Imagine how your life would change if you had the ability to do this?” Then I realized I do. All I have to do is turn  my doubting Thomas voice off, and start thinking positively. As cliché or corny as this may sound, it’s true. I believe that positive thinking is the difference between those who do, and those who don’t. I would like to know, if you had to pick one word to live by for this year what would it be? May you feel encouraged by this post today. As for me, may I be more determined then ever, have confidence, and be encouraged.

Hello Turnips! I just wanted to do a quick “check in.” I hope y’all had a very Merry Christmas. Any fun plans for New Year’s eve? My oldest brother told me he is going to a concert at Red Rocks (that’s in CO), and I thought that sounded pretty fun. Chris and I plan on making some vegan hors d’oeuvres and watching a movie. I know it’s pretty laid back but believe me, when I say it sounds amazing to us, as we have been going non stop with school/life. Now, I hate to do this to you because, I know you just about can’t function without your daily does of Turnip Tootsie, but my readers are awesome so I know you will understand… I’m going to take another little break so I can finish up, and focus on this winter semester history class I am taking.  I’ll be back at full speed ahead on January 6th 2014! In the mean time would you mind leaving me some ideas in my comments box, I want to know what you are interested in, ex…  specific health questions, questions about me, fashion questions… You get the idea 🙂

How to make sparkly champagne New Year’s glasses.

How to decorate for New Year’s.

If you live somewhere cold you can chill your champagne/wine like this.

New Year’s eve little black dress.

Vegan bread bowl appetizer.

A  plan for 2014.

Be safe out there. Lots of love,
